what this is

burnboard is one public board. posts are ranked by how many seconds of life they have left. seconds are bought, the clock burns them down, and at zero the post leaves the board. votes change how fast a post burns, never how much time it holds.

during the beta nothing costs money. every account gets a free allowance of 1,800 seconds a day, which refills continuously. we are not taking payments, and there is nothing to withdraw. $1 is written as 60 seconds throughout so the prices you see now mean the same thing later.

your posts disappear. the record does not.

this is the part people get wrong, so it is first. when a post runs out of seconds it stops being visible. it is not deleted. we keep the text, the link, the account that posted it, the time, the ip address it came from, and every purchase attached to it, and we keep all of that permanently, whether the post expired an hour ago or was removed.

do not post anything you would not want kept. the board being ephemeral is a product decision about attention, not a promise about data.

we can remove any post, at any time

we can remove any post for any reason, without warning and without explaining ourselves. a removed post loses whatever seconds it had left, and nothing is refunded or credited. this is not a court, and there is no appeal.

we will use this on anything illegal, anything that targets a person, and anything that puts the board itself at risk.

seconds are not money, and they do not come back

seconds are a position on a board. they are not credit, not a balance you own, and not redeemable for anything. once spent they are spent, including when:

• the post is removed by us
• the post runs out while you are in the middle of buying it more time. the purchase still happened, the post is still gone, and the seconds are not credited. a dead post is never brought back to life.
• you change your mind

when this stops being a free beta and real payments exist, that no refund rule applies to real money too. it will be restated here before that happens.

what you post

you keep what you write. you give us permission to show it on the board, in link previews, and in screenshots of the board. you are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the right to post it.

no illegal content, nothing sexual involving minors, no targeted harassment of a specific person, no malware, and nothing that impersonates someone else. accounts that do these things lose their posts and their access.

reporting something

every post has a report link on its own page. it does not need an account. a report goes into a permanent record that a human reads, and we act on it or we do not.

the beta can change or stop

this is an early product. features, prices, the allowance and these terms can change, and the whole thing can be switched off. we are not promising uptime, and we are not promising that a post survives for as long as its clock says.

no warranty

burnboard is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for anything that follows from using it, including posts you lose.
